Disconnected Data Distribution
Disconnected Data Distribution explores how intermittently connected transports can keep essential data moving where internet access is unavailable or disrupted by disasters. Its Android clients and core server support services such as email across disconnected networks.
Contributions
- Led a three-person team modernizing the Android client and transport apps from Java/XML fragments to Kotlin and Jetpack Compose across storage, uploads, logging, Wi-Fi Direct, USB, permissions, and administration flows.
- Built reliable Android infrastructure for offline transports, including runtime permission handling, asynchronous coroutines, and configuration workflows.
- Persisted user preferences with Protocol Buffers and Jetpack DataStore and integrated the mobile clients with the Spring Boot, gRPC, and MySQL backend.
Outcomes
- Landed 26 merged contributions across the Android client and transport stack.
